Crochet Turkey or Peacock Pin

Many years ago, a friend of mine at church had a cute crocheted turkey pin.  She let me borrow it to work out a pattern.  I made several of these little guys for family members.

Crochet Turkey or Peacock Pin

Materials: Small amounts of brown, red and orange worsted wt. yarn, size G hook.

My granddaughter lost her turkey and I didn't have my turkey color yarns with me.  I made a peacock by substituting  blue and purple yarns.

Stitches:
ch = chain
dc = double crochet
sc = single crochet
sl st = slip stitch
st = stitch

Instructions:

Body: With brown ch 4, join with sl st to form ring.  Ch 3 (counts as first dc), 15 dc in ring, join with sl st to top of first ch 3.  Fasten off.

Head & wattle: Attach red in top of any dc with a sl st, ch 3, 3 dc in same dc as ch 3.
Skip 1 dc, sc in next dc, ch 3, skip 1 dc, sl st in next dc.  Fasten off.

Tail: Skip 4 dc on body, attach orange in next dc with a sl st, ch 5, sc in same dc.
Ch 5, (sc, ch 5, sc) in next dc, (ch 5, sc in next dc) twice, ch 5, sl st in next dc.  Fasten off.

There should be 2 unworked dc between the head and tail.

Weave in all loose ends.

I used a drop of fabric paint to make an eye.  Or I recently used a Sharpie permanent marker to make a small dot for the eye.

Sew on a pin back or small safety pin.

Happy Thanksgiving!
